Beyond their full-group releases, the group’s growing world of special sub-units has opened up even more room for fresh sounds and chemistry. With the recent debut of V8 already generating buzz among fans, these smaller lineups continue to show just how versatile Seventeen can be. From BSS to the newest duo V8, here are all the special sub-units to know

SVT Leaders - S.Coups, Hoshi and Woozi

SVT Leaders brings together three of Seventeen’s core creative figures: hip-hop team leader S.Coups, performance team leader Hoshi and vocal team leader Woozi. The trio first stood out with “Change Up” in 2017, before returning in 2022 with “Cheers,” a confident track from Sector 17. Representing the group’s leadership, musical direction and performance identity, the unit highlights the members who help shape Seventeen from within.

BSS - Seungkwan, DK and Hoshi

BSS, also known as BooSeokSoon, is Seventeen ’s first official special sub-unit, formed by DK, Hoshi and Seungkwan. Known for their “happy virus” energy, the trio’s name combines syllables from their real names: Boo Seungkwan, Lee Seokmin and Kwon Soonyoung. After debuting with “Just Do It” in 2018, they returned with the single albums Second Wind in 2023 and Teleparty in 2025, bringing bright humour, powerful vocals and feel-good charm to the spotlight.

JxW - Jeonghan and Wonwoo

JxW, formed by Jeonghan and Wonwoo, is Seventeen ’s second official special sub-unit, following BSS. The duo released their first single album This Man in June 2024, led by “Last Night.” Inspired by the urban legend of a mysterious man appearing in people’s dreams, the project brought a darker, more cinematic mood to Seventeen ’s unit releases, pairing Jeonghan’s elegant vocals with Wonwoo’s deep-toned rap and charisma.

HxW - Hoshi and Woozi

HxW pairs two of Seventeen ’s strongest creative engines: Hoshi, the group’s performance leader, and Woozi, the vocal team leader and producer behind many of its hits. The same-age duo first showed their chemistry through “Bring It” in 2017, before officially debuting with the single album Beam in 2025. Led by “96ers,” the project balances Hoshi’s sharp performance instinct with Woozi’s production-led musical identity, making HxW a natural extension of the group’s self-made spirit.

CxM - S.Coups and Mingyu

Taking Seventeen ’s special sub-unit universe further into hip-hop, CxM brings together S.Coups and Mingyu in a cooler, more style-driven format. The duo debuted with the mini-album Hype Vibes, led by “5, 4, 3 (Pretty Woman)” featuring US rapper Lay Bankz. Built around heavy beats, a relaxed hip-hop mood and streetwear-ready visuals, CxM feels sleek, charismatic and effortlessly confident, setting itself apart from the group’s other sub-units.

DxS - DK and Seungkwan

Meanwhile, DxS puts the spotlight on DK and Seungkwan, two of Seventeen’s most recognisable vocalists. Officially debuting as a duo in 2026 with the mini-album Serenade, the unit centres on a more emotional, ballad-driven sound, led by the title track “Blue.” While both members are loved for their humour and bright energy, DxS gives them space to explore a more refined, cinematic side of their vocal chemistry.

V8 - Vernon and The8

As Seventeen’s newest special sub-unit, V8 brings together Vernon and The8 in one of the group’s most intriguing pairings yet. Their first mini-album, V8, is led by “singasong” and leans into a Y2K-inspired aesthetic with an experimental hyperpop edge. The eight-track project also includes “girlsnboys,” featuring production from Pharrell Williams, while Vernon’s alternative sensibility and The8’s sleek performance identity make the duo feel fresh within Seventeen’s unit universe.
