Leica marks a century of innovation with limited editions and collectibles

Leica Camera AG celebrates 100 years of the Leica I, the first mass-produced 35mm camera, with exclusive products and global events

Leica Camera AG commemorates a significant milestone in 2025: a century since the launch of the Leica I, which revolutionised photography at the Leipzig Spring Fair in 1925. To honour this legacy, Leica has unveiled a series of limited-edition cameras, accessories, and collector’s items under the banner “100 Years of Leica: Witness to a Century”.

Limited-Edition cameras

The centrepiece of Leica’s celebrations is the Leica M11 “100 Years of Leica” series. This exclusive range includes six special editions, each limited to 100 units and named after iconic cities: Shanghai, Dubai, Milan, New York, Tokyo, and Wetzlar.

The Shanghai edition, available from July 2025 in Greater China, features a glossy black finish inspired by historic M-Cameras. Unique design elements include silver-chromed controls, black cowhide armouring, and an engraved “Shanghai China” on the top plate. Each camera is individually numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Accessories collection

Steiff teddy bears: Ernst and Elsie

Leica has also introduced a curated selection of accessories in collaboration with renowned brands. Highlights include:

• Steiff teddy bears: Limited-edition “Ernst” and “Elsie” bears honouring Leica pioneers Ernst Leitz II and Elsie Kühn-Leitz. Each bear features intricate details like miniature Leica cameras.
• Graf von Faber-Castell writing instruments: The “Perfect Pencil” and ballpoint pen are crafted with precision and engraved with Ernst Leitz II’s famous quote: “Es wird riskiert” (“We will take the risk”).
• Creative sets: A crafting set with paper cut-outs of a Leica M-Camera and colour pencils by Faber-Castell, as well as a 3D puzzle model of the Leica I.

Other items include sterling silver cufflinks, leather bracelets, magnifiers, shopping bags, and soft release buttons – all reflecting Leica’s commitment to craftsmanship and design.

Global celebrations

Throughout 2025, Leica will host events across six cities to celebrate its centenary. These gatherings aim to connect photography enthusiasts while showcasing the brand’s rich history and ongoing innovation.

The anniversary products are available at Leica Stores worldwide and online. Select items are already on sale, while others will launch between February and May 2025.
