Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2025: Day 1 and 2

As Milan Fashion Week unfolds from September 17 to 23, 2024, the fashion world is abuzz with anticipation for the Spring/Summer 2025 collections. Renowned for its blend of tradition and modernity, this year’s event showcases an impressive lineup of designers, including Fendi, Marni, Boss, Jil Sander, Roberto Cavalli and Etro.

Each collection promises to reflect the unique essence of Italian style while pushing creative boundaries.

Fendi: A centenary celebration

Kicking off the week of September 17, Fendi’s show was particularly significant as it commemorates the brand’s centenary. Creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi has hinted at a collection that pays homage to the house’s rich heritage while embracing contemporary aesthetics. We see a vibrant mix of textures and silhouettes that encapsulate Fendi’s legacy of luxury and innovation. Sheer is a big component in Fendi’s S/S 2025 women’s collection, and we are all for it! 

Marni: Eclecticism and playfulness

Following closely was Marni, known for its distinctive approach to colour and pattern. The collection featured bold prints and unexpected combinations, embodying a sense of joy and creativity that has become synonymous with the brand. Marni continues to challenge conventional fashion norms, making it a must-watch this season.

Boss: Tailoring meets Streetwear

On September 18, Boss presented a collection that juxtaposes classic tailoring with modern streetwear influences. This innovative approach aims to redefine professional attire for the contemporary individual. Sharp lines paired with relaxed fits showcase versatility that resonates with today’s fashion-forward consumers. This brand has shown us that a relaxed tailoring look is what S/S 2025 is all about. 

Jil Sander: Minimalism reimagined

Jil Sander’s show commenced with a striking display of bold-shouldered tailoring crafted from ethereal, iridescent fabrics. Co-creative directors Luke and Lucie Meiers drew inspiration from the power-dressing aesthetics that Jil Sander popularised in the 1980s, highlighting boxy silhouettes and oversized fits that resonate with a contemporary audience. The atmosphere was electric, with each look walking the runway like a statement in itself. The oversized cuts, while reminiscent of the 80s, are executed with a contemporary flair that suggests a new direction for the brand – one that embraces both strength and fluidity. Accessories were minimal yet impactful, allowing the garments to take centre stage.

Roberto Cavalli: Opulence and glamour

Roberto Cavalli took centre stage with a collection that celebrates opulence and sensuality. Known for its bold prints and luxurious fabrics, Cavalli didn’t disappoint. Its show was an exuberant testament to the brand’s legacy, showcasing a stunning array of bold designs that celebrated glamour and audacity. Under the creative direction of Fausto Puglisi, the collection was a vibrant homage to the house’s signature aesthetic, marked by striking animal prints and a daring colour palette.

The collection did not shy away from embracing the theatrical; it was a celebration of femininity that resonated with youthful exuberance and timeless elegance. The mermaid dresses, often dismissed as clichéd, were reimagined in this collection, crafted with stretchy fabrics that flattered the figure while maintaining a sense of movement—an embodiment of modern glamour.

Etro: A journey through patterns

Closing out day two was Etro, renowned for its bohemian spirit and intricate patterns. The Etro Spring/Summer 2025 collection, presented in an exclusive dinner setting rather than a traditional runway show, marks a significant moment in the evolution of the brand under the creative direction of Marco De Vincenzo. This intimate event, held at the Vocé in Giardino restaurant within the Galleria D’Italia museum, was attended by a select group of fashion insiders and friends of the house, including notable figures such as Kelly Rutherford and Johannes Huebl.

The collection is steeped in Etro’s legacy of vibrant prints and patterns, with De Vincenzo drawing inspiration from the brand’s founder, Gimmo Etro. He has reimagined classic motifs through a contemporary lens, presenting them in fresh hues that evoke a sense of Baroque richness. 

As Milan Fashion Week progresses, these collections will not only set trends but also reflect the evolving landscape of fashion in an increasingly interconnected world.
