Sir David Tang Has Died
It’s a dark day for Hong Kong, and indeed the world. Beloved socialite, entrepreneur, columnist and larger-than-life personality Sir David Tang has passed away at 63. We remember him here with his daughter.
According to close family friend Ewan Venters, CEO of Fortnum & Mason, the vivacious founder of Shanghai Tang passed late yesterday evening. This news comes shortly after Tang’s announcement that he was terminally ill, and planned to host a farewell party at London’s Dorchester Hotel to celebrate with his friends. The invitation, in true Tang style, promised “jolly merriment” and “a lot of embraces”, reported The Times in London.
Our thoughts are with his family; Sir David leaves behind a loving wife, two children and a grandchild, countless friends, and a legion of fans across the globe.
